On September 21, 101 Health Research Founder and Managing Director Dr. Venus Oliva “Doc Ivy” Cloma-Rosales welcomed Dr. Supachai “Kid” Parchariyanon, Founder of the Southeast Asia Health Innovation Hub (SEA HI Hub), during his visit to Manila. Both leaders share a strong regional connection as fellows in the Eisenhower Fellowships Southeast Asia Program 2025.
SEA HI Hub connects researchers, healthcare institutions, startups, investors, and partners across the region to help promising health technologies move from research into clinical use. During his Manila visit, 101 Health Research assisted Dr. Kid in connecting with public health and medical research leaders at the University of the Philippines Manila (UPM) and the Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH).
Learning the Local Health Innovation Landscape at UP Manila & UP-PGH
At UP Manila, discussions brought together colleagues from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Office of International Linkages, Technology Transfer and Business Development Office, and UP SIBOL—including Dr. Leslie Michelle Dalmacio, Dr. Vivien Fe Fadrilan-Camacho, Prof. Maria Eliza Aguilar, Engr. Jed Bellen, and Dr. Philip Fullante.
At UP-PGH, the group met with leadership including Dr. Gerardo “Gap” Legaspi (Director), Dr. Marie Dione Parreno-Sacdalan (Deputy Director for Training and Research), Dr. Belen R. Dofitas (Coordinator for Research), Dr. Aileen Espina (Coordinator for External Linkages and Universal Health Care), and Dr. Apolinario Ericson Berberabe (Deputy Director for Administration), alongside clinical research colleagues.
The conversations provided an invaluable opportunity to exchange perspectives on what translating innovation takes in practice: strong clinical partnerships, sound evidence, and solutions shaped by the real-world needs of health systems.
Visiting the 101 Health Research Office
The day following these institutional meetings, Dr. Kid visited the 101 Health Research office to meet with our team. The visit capped off a productive exchange on bringing a broader regional perspective to local health research, expanding research capacity, and continuing to foster evidence-based health innovation across Southeast Asia.
