Over lunch and laughter, Filipino scientists, doctors, and researchers at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard welcomed Dr. Venus Oliva Cloma-Rosales, MD, MPH, ME, Eisenhower Fellow 2025 and Managing Director of 101 Health Research, for an intimate lunchtime session titled “From the Philippines to Philadelphia: An Eisenhower Fellowship Journey on Health Data for Impact.”
Hosted by Dr. Edward Ryan Collantes, the gathering of Pinoy Broadies (Filipino researchers at the Broad Institute) was a warm exchange of stories, ideas, and shared identity over boxes of pizza.
Dr. Venus spoke about her Eisenhower Fellowship project to develop a health dataverse ecosystem and intelligent health evidence portal that supports data-driven universal health care and precision public health across Southeast Asia.
She also shared the ongoing work of 101 Health Research, an independent firm specializing in health research, clinical biostatistics, and health data science. Among its ongoing projects are are:
- Filipino Nurses in the Digital Job Market — a data-driven look at the evolving nursing workforce; and
- The Mid-Term Evaluation of the National Unified Health Research Agenda (NUHRA) 2023–2028 — a study using data science and natural language processing to assess national research priorities.
Dr. Edward Ryan Collantes, physician and scientist focused on the genetics of inherited ocular disorders such as early onset glaucoma. Through next-generation sequencing and recombinant DNA technology, his work aims to advance understanding of eye disease and develop targeted therapies. He is currently a Research Scientist at the Greka Lab (Anna Greka, MD, PhD) of the Broad Institute.
The Broad Institute is a world-renowned research center known for pioneering work in genomics, biomedical data science, and precision medicine.
