#ResearchClinics: Inside a High-Yield Research Workshop for the UERM-CSMC Neurology Consortium

May 29-30, 2026. As part of our RISE (Research Innovation & Skills Enhancement) Series, 101 Health Research had the privilege of conducting a two-day research workshop for the Neurology Consortium of the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center (UERM) and Cardinal Santos Medical Center (CSMC), covering:

  • Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis
  • Analytical Research in the Neurosciences

What made this workshop particularly fulfilling for us was its format.

Conducted in a small-group hybrid setting with participants joining both onsite and via Zoom, the workshop created space for deeper discussions, practical problem-solving, and meaningful exchanges that are often difficult to achieve in larger lecture-based sessions.

Through our #ResearchClinics approach, we focus on a question that often gets overlooked in traditional research training:

What are the real challenges clinicians face when conducting research amidst busy clinical duties, competing priorities, and limited time?

Together, we explored:

  • Common decision points and pain points in planning systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and primary research studies
  • Practical concepts that are often assumed rather than explicitly taught—including how to navigate resources such as the Cochrane Handbook, PRISMA, PRISMA-P, Risk of Bias tools, and GRADE guidance
  • The distinction between tasks that can be streamlined through technology and those that continue to require methodological expertise, critical thinking, and research integrity

Beyond research methods, we discussed evidence synthesis as a professional practice—walking through protocol development, literature searching, methods writing, critical appraisal, and the many decisions that shape a high-quality research project.

One recurring feedback from participants was simple:

“We learned a lot.”

For us, this reinforces something we continue to observe through our #ResearchClinics: clinicians learn best when research training is practical, interactive, and closely connected to the realities of clinical practice.

As part of the RISE Series, we continue to refine this model of research capacity building. We are increasingly convinced that smaller-group, highly interactive, hybrid workshops create the right environment for meaningful learning, thoughtful discussion, and real-world application.

We are grateful to the UERM-CSMC Neurology Consortium for the opportunity to learn together.
